Schools - private and public
Greater Latrobe School district is one of the largest and most well regarded public schools in the area. Along with it's many elementary schools and other centers of learning, the high school itself has been renowned for it's educational excellence.
The two main private schools in the area are Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic school, and Bible Baptist Christian School.
Saint Vincent College is considered one of the most beautiful and rural college campuses in the nation, and the Laurel Mountain branch of the Westmorleand Community College has grown exponentially in the last 5 years.
Transportation and Travel
The major through way near Latrobe is U.S. Route 30, which runs from Latrobe through Greensburg, North Huntington and finally the Pittsburgh area.
The Arnold Palmer Regional Airport has always been considered a great commuter airport to Pittsburgh, and now has recently been chartering flights of it's own to major cities across the U.S.
Shopping and Entertainment
Along with many local shops in the downtown distristrict of Latrobe, there are two major shopping plazas outside of town where one can find Giant Eagle, Movie theatres, multiple restaurants and local favorites such as Sharky's restaurant and bar, The Touchdown Club, and The Blue Angels Restaurant.
Local History
An area rich in history, celebrity and "firsts". The first Banana Split was created at Strickler's Drug Store in downtown Latrobe in 1904. Television's Mister Rodgers was born in Latrobe, along with golfer Arnold Palmer and comedian Jackie Mason.
Latrobe is also the birthplace of Rolling Rock beer, and many major innovations in the steel industry.
Annually the Pittsburgh Steelers host their training camp at St. Vincent college.
